I get asked the question “please show us your strats” I can show a team or an individual the “almost perfect” 10 seconds of a round, but with the rest of the round, is up to the communication and teamwork.

All I can say is, the teamspeak chatter that you have with your team will determine the outcome of the game, plain and simple. The first 10 seconds of the round you are playing is dedicated purely on the anti rush nades and set smokes, the rest is up to the captain and the team as to what is going to happen in the rest of the round. The more you speak, the better your team will do. It’s not just based on the calling of the oppositions position, there are many factors that require attention.

I’m writing this based on the “gap” the gap is what has developed over time between many premier teams and lower division teams within the competitive gaming, and to be honest it’s not just the gap between divisions, it’s a gap between the top 3 or 4 teams we have in South Africa. The only way you are going to win or progress is if you have that “click” within the team dynamic, this doesn’t just apply to gaming, it applies to many competitive sports and genres.

The tips to keeping an active communication channel that is constructive:

1. Keep it short – Call as soon as you know. Don’t faff around saying “fuck that, Bullshit!!” I do it from time to time as well. Bad habits die hard! Keep it short and precise, that way your remaining team mates don’t have to put up with voice spam and can deal with the problem as soon as it happens.

2. Don’t rage, again we all suffer from it time to time, main fact is, everything that’s negative, keep it out of the game!! People have lost positions in premier and are still trying to recover due to it.

3. Criticism, worst possible thing to do. If you put a teamie down in a game, it brings his and the teams morale down, and possibly lose you the game in the long run.

4. Keep it light hearted, joke around, have fun and crack a joke when there is time. There are few worse things than having a teamspeak channel that’s bleak as hell. When you having fun you most probably winning. And the two are interlinked. It keeps stress levels down and lets people play a little more freely, this is when the amazing happens.

I know the woes of having these issues whist playing, and it sucks. Its going to take time to rectify these small issues, and I say small because they are not that difficult to rectify. The best place to practice you new Teamspeak etiquette is playing pickups, all habit is lost and reformed whist during the action in which you associate the habit. So next time you play a game or pickup, don’t be shy to point out to someone that they not being productive in their in game calling or teamspeak presence."-
